CPMC Surgery Tech Gains Certification
The Surgery Department at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is eager to announce the achievement of technician, Deanna Hutchison, CRCST, CFER who recently became a Certified Flexible Endoscopic Reprocessor (CFER)
The CFER certification program is provided by Sterile Processing University and the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD). First, Hutchison attended a course provided by Sterile Processing University in September of 2019. After passing that test, she took it to the next level and sat for her certification board with CBSPD in November.
When asked about the training course, Hutchison reflected, "It gave me a chance to see the internal anatomy of endoscopes, to see how they work, and how to properly handle them. Also, to see the various bacteria there are and to disinfect them all. Almost half of my job is cleaning and disinfection endoscopes, so it's good to learn all that I can."
Hutchison continued, "This achievement ensures competency in the jobs we do here at CPMC. We work hard to keep up with all of the latest news and information on health-related issues I feel confident that I am doing the best at my job, making sure the endoscopes are clean and disinfected for every patient."
Erin Moe, RN and Manager of the CPMC Surgery Department, is pleased with Hutchison's hard work. "The Surgery Department is extremely proud of Deanna! She is a valuable member of our team. Endoscopy is a large component of the surgery department here at CPMC and maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills in sterilization and cleaning practices is critical, especially in rural areas. Deanna is very knowledgeable and does an excellent job as a central sterile technician; we are lucky to have her at CPMC!"
Hutchison has been working for CPMC for over 12.5 years and has been a member of the central sterile surgical team for over 3 of those years.
